(International protection seeker; Applicant for international protection)

A person seeking international protection outside the borders of their country of residence, but who has not yet been recognised as a refugee yet. Seeking asylum is a human right, which means that everyone should be allowed to enter another country to seek asylum. The asylum procedure should be fair and efficient. No one should be forced to return to a country where their life or well-being may be at risk.

A person who has been granted protection and asylum in another country due to a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion.
